Tu t’es manifesté dans l’eau;
L’astre te montre enfant nouveau.

O Maker of all things from naught,
Who stars and water first hadst wrought,
In water hast thou glory shown,
And towards thee a star has shone.
Le Temple, ayant été souillé,
En plein hiver fut purifié;
Toi, vraie lumière, nous allouas
L’Épiphanie, huit jours d’éclat.

The Temple having been defiled,
In winter was it purified;
Thou, true light, gavest us so bright
Th’ Epiphany, eight days of light.
En sanctifiant l’eau à Cana,
Du vin nouveau tu leurs donnas,
Ta gloire ainsi manifestant,
Ton ministère y débutant.

In Cana hast thou water blest,
And made thy glory manifest;
By turning water into wine,
Thy ministry didst thou design.
Christ, de ton peuple étant l’époux,
La noce est imagée pour nous:
Festin du royaume infini;
Le saint mariage tu bénis.

Lord, bridegroom of thy Church thou art;
This is a symbol to our heart:
Thy kingdom’s feast, eternal rest,
Like Cana’s wedding hast thou blest.
En sanctifiant l’eau du Jourdain,
Sur terre tu montras soudain
La Trinité, que nul ne voit,
L’unique Dieu, personnes trois:

The Jordan hast thou sanctified;
To the true faith thou didst us guide:
The Trinity, to all unseen,
On Jordan manifest has been.
Toi, Dieu le Fils, plongé dans l’eau,
La voix du Père chut d’en haut,
Et, comme la colombe, vint,
Sur toi, du ciel, Dieu l’Esprit-Saint.

Thou, God the Son, in water wast,
The Father’s voice from heav’n was cast,
And God the Spirit, like a dove,
On thee descended from above.
Le Temple redédicacé
Est obsolète et dépassé;
Tu as dressé, Seigneur très doux,
Ton tabernacle parmi nous:

Although the Temple was restored,
Became it obsolete, O Lord;
Thou, Word made flesh, thus manifest,
Among us dwellest, sinners’ guest.
En corps humain tu apparus;
Ta gloire, nous l’avons donc vue;
Christ plein de grâce et vérité,
À toi louange illimitée! Amen.

Christ, human true, shown forth at birth,
We have behold’n thy glore on earth;
Lord full of grace and truth and lore,
All praise to thee for evermore!
